As an Institutional Sales professional, you will be responsible for developing and strengthening relationships with institutional investors in Japan. Based in Tokyo and working onsite, you will represent the firm’s investment capabilities, understand client objectives and identify opportunities to deliver appropriate solutions.
Your responsibilities will include managing existing client relationships, developing new business opportunities and supporting the full sales process from initial engagement through to mandate conversion. You will work closely with investment, product, marketing and client service teams to prepare compelling proposals, respond to investor requirements and communicate market and portfolio insights clearly.
The role will require a thoughtful, consultative approach to client engagement, alongside strong commercial judgement and the ability to navigate complex institutional decision-making processes. You will also contribute to market intelligence, account planning, pipeline development and the firm’s broader growth strategy in Japan.
Proven experience in institutional sales, business development or client relationship management within asset management, investment management or a related financial services environment.
A strong understanding of institutional investors in Japan, including their objectives, decision-making processes and investment considerations.
Demonstrable ability to develop trusted, long-term relationships with senior clients and prospective investors.
Experience presenting investment capabilities, products or solutions clearly to sophisticated professional audiences.
Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to identify opportunities, manage a sales pipeline and convert relationships into business.
Excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills in both Japanese and English.
Ability to work collaboratively with investment, product, marketing and client service colleagues across an international organisation.
A high degree of integrity, organisation and self-motivation, with the resilience to manage a complex and competitive market.
