As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer / AI Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of sophisticated web applications, business systems and generative AI solutions for enterprise customers. You will translate business requirements into robust technical solutions, advise on technology selection and make architecture decisions that deliver measurable client impact.
Your responsibilities will include defining requirements with customers, designing cloud infrastructure across Azure or AWS, and guiding the development of secure, reliable systems. Where appropriate, you will contribute to LLM and AI agent architectures, including evaluation, guardrails and hallucination prevention.
You will also mentor engineers, conduct technical reviews and help raise the organisation’s overall engineering standards. The role is based in Tokyo and operates on a hybrid basis, with office attire including a suit.
At least five years’ experience developing web applications or business systems using TypeScript, Python and/or Rust.
Proven experience leading technology selection and making architecture design decisions.
Practical experience designing and building cloud infrastructure on Azure and/or AWS.
Strong ability to negotiate technical matters and define requirements with enterprise customers.
Experience mentoring engineers and conducting code or technical reviews to maintain high standards.
A customer-focused approach, with the ability to connect technical solutions to business impact.
Ownership of organisational improvements in engineering capability, processes and technical quality.
Excellent communication skills, professional business etiquette and the ability to learn unfamiliar industries quickly.
Experience designing and operating production LLM or generative AI systems would be advantageous.
Knowledge of AI agent evaluation, hallucination prevention, guardrails, multi-tenancy, RBAC and audit logging would be beneficial.
Experience with regulated industries, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, or on-premises and network-isolated deployments would be valued.
Technical communication skills in English and the ability to work effectively in a hybrid Tokyo-based environment.
