What the job entails

As a Japan Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services for employees in Japan. Based in Tokyo, you will manage payroll activities in line with local requirements, company procedures and agreed client service standards.

Your responsibilities will include preparing and processing payroll data, validating calculations, maintaining accurate employee records and addressing payroll-related queries. You will work closely with internal teams, clients and relevant stakeholders to investigate discrepancies, resolve issues and ensure deadlines are consistently met.

The role requires a high level of confidentiality, organisation and attention to detail. You will also contribute to process improvements, maintain clear documentation and help ensure that payroll operations remain compliant and efficient. Key requirements

• Experience in Japanese payroll processing, payroll administration or a closely related function.
• Strong knowledge of payroll procedures and statutory requirements applicable in Japan.
• Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies accurately.
• Experience handling confidential employee and payroll information with discretion.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
• Proficiency in Japanese and professional working English for communication with international colleagues and clients.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and payroll or HR systems.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with a professional and service-oriented approach.
• Ability to investigate issues, analyse payroll data and explain findings to relevant stakeholders.
• A collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to process improvements in a changing international environment.
• A relevant qualification in payroll, human resources, finance or business would be advantageous.
