As a Payroll Specialist, you will manage end-to-end payroll processing for clients in Japan, ensuring that payroll data and calculations are accurate, timely and compliant with relevant statutory requirements. You will calculate salaries, pensions, leave, commissions and other compensation elements, while maintaining complete and accurate employee information in the payroll system.
You will liaise with local authorities on pensions, social insurance, tax and other statutory matters. The role also involves preparing HR reports covering employee movements, headcount, pay summaries, cost-centre allocations and payroll breakdowns. You will participate in client meetings, provide HR guidance relating to labour laws and employment regulations, maintain trusted client relationships, and support regional payroll teams with operational and administrative activities.
Native-level Japanese proficiency.
Operational or business-level English, particularly for written communication.
Solid experience managing end-to-end payroll processing in Japan.
Experience handling high-volume payroll in a fast-paced environment.
Experience using payroll systems.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills and a high degree of numerical accuracy.
Strong understanding of payroll calculations, including salaries, pensions, leave, commissions and other compensation.
Knowledge of Japanese pensions, social insurance, taxation and statutory payroll requirements.
Experience working for a payroll outsourcing company or payroll vendor is advantageous.
Ability to maintain accurate employee and payroll data.
Strong communication and client relationship management skills.
Ability to participate confidently in client meetings and provide guidance on labour laws and employment regulations.
Willingness to work collaboratively with regional payroll teams.
Availability to work in Tokyo within a hybrid working arrangement.
