This is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad accounting remit and make a visible contribution to the day-to-day running of the business. You will work closely with colleagues in Japan and the wider regional finance team, bringing together local knowledge and international collaboration. The role offers scope to work independently, build strong relationships across the business and help maintain accurate, reliable financial operations.

What the job entails

As Accountant, you will own the local accounting function, keeping financial records accurate and up to date. Your responsibilities will include bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, customer invoicing, local bank payments, general ledger integrity and monthly balance sheet reviews.

You will prepare financial reports and provide weekly updates to the Country Manager, while monitoring cash flow and escalating any issues that may require action. You will support cost control, oversee local tax compliance and coordinate with external auditors to help ensure financial statements are completed on time. Working with external consultants on matters including payroll and tax, you will also review relevant work and help ensure local obligations are met. The position is based in a Tokyo office and works closely with the regional finance team, including the APAC Vice President of Finance.

Key requirements

• A degree in accounting, accountancy or a relevant discipline.
• At least three years’ accounting experience, with practical, hands-on capability across a broad accounting remit.
• Japanese proficiency for day-to-day communication with colleagues in the local office.
• Good written and spoken English to communicate with the regional finance team and senior finance stakeholders.
• Experience with bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of cash-flow monitoring, local tax and audit coordination.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks and manage competing deadlines in a small team.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills, and clear communication.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Payroll knowledge is an advantage, particularly when liaising with external consultants and reviewing their work.
• Able to work on site five days a week, with flexible daily start and finish times.
