What the Job Entails

As Commercial Finance Manager, you will serve as a strategic business partner to the commercial and marketing teams supporting the company’s heated product and modern oral nicotine pouch categories. You will translate financial analysis into clear commercial recommendations and help the business make informed decisions on growth, investment, and resource allocation.

Your responsibilities will include supporting pricing strategy, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and business planning. You will evaluate commercial initiatives using ROI, NPV, payback, and scenario analysis, while considering excise, market dynamics, and business objectives. The role also includes managing and developing team members and collaborating closely with planning, transformation, supply chain, operations, marketing, and commercial stakeholders.

Based in Tokyo, the position follows a hybrid model, with the opportunity to work from home two days per week after the six-month probation period.

Key Requirements

• 5+ years of finance business partnering experience at manager level, preferably within FMCG or another consumer-focused industry.
• Proven people management experience, including the ability to coach, develop, and motivate team members.
• Fluent or native-level Japanese communication skills, with the confidence to work effectively with Japanese colleagues; a JLPT qualification alone is not sufficient.
• Solid English proficiency for internal communication in an international business environment.
• Strong financial and commercial analytical capabilities, including ROI, NPV, payback, scenario analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation.
• Understanding of excise considerations, pricing strategy, company planning processes, and financial reporting.
• Familiarity with marketing strategy, trade marketing, and brand marketing activities.
• Experience collaborating cross-functionally with commercial, marketing, planning, supply chain, operations, and transformation teams.
• Understanding of financial governance and internal controls.
• Comfortable working within Japanese workplace culture and communication practices, preferably with significant experience living or working in Japan.
• A proactive, curious, sharp, and hardworking approach, with the confidence to challenge established ways of working.
• Willingness to work primarily in the Tokyo office during the probation period and adapt to a fast-paced, international environment.
