💡 The Opportunity
The Liability Adjuster is responsible for managing complex, higher-exposure and litigated liability claims for a growing independent commercial P&C insurance brokerage in New York. This role combines in-depth coverage and contract analysis with litigation oversight, risk transfer and close partnership with clients and carriers. The ideal candidate brings strong liability claims experience, ideally in construction general liability, and enjoys owning challenging files from investigation through resolution.
🔧 What You’ll Do
Manage complex liability claims involving intricate fact patterns, contract analysis, and coverage issues across multiple policy years and coverage types.
Handle higher-exposure and litigated claims, tracking litigation and overseeing defense counsel.
Work with insureds to investigate claims and lawsuits and drive the best resolution strategy.
Ensure carriers pursue risk transfer against other liable parties, including additional insured and contractual indemnity tenders.
Keep diaries current and oversee accurate reserves, expenses, and financial transactions.
Communicate proactively with clients, carriers, and internal teams, and present reasoned claim evaluations in roundtables.
Share expertise with the team through training and special projects.
✅ What You Bring
5+ years of liability claims handling experience, preferably in construction general liability (general contractors, developers, owners, or construction managers).
Hands-on experience with risk transfer, including additional insured and contractual indemnity tenders.
Strong coverage analysis skills across multiple policies and coverage parts.
Experience managing litigated claims and working with defense counsel.
Excellent analytical, communication, and listening skills, with a strong client-service mindset.
Ability to manage a high volume of files, prioritize, and pivot quickly.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to commute to our Central Valley or Monroe, NY office (hybrid schedule available).
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Please note: workers’ compensation claims experience alone does not meet the requirements for this role.

Adjuster license.
Experience with professional liability and EPLI claims.
Knowledge of New York Labor Law claims.
Background on a carrier or TPA construction GL claims desk.
