As Product Design Engineer, you will support the development, refinement and production of connector products. Reporting to the Product Design Department Head, you will contribute to connector concept development, detailed mechanical design and the creation and maintenance of technical drawings.
Your responsibilities will include preparing preliminary cost estimates and technical and quality documentation, supporting prototype procurement and assembly, and assisting with product testing and fixture preparation. You will also support mass production activities, including First Article Inspection, drawing maintenance and Engineering Change Request processing.
The role includes administrative activities such as quotations, product lifecycle management and enterprise resource planning registration. You will regularly communicate with colleagues in Shenzhen through online meetings, email and chat, and will work onsite in Kanagawa, with flexibility to work from another company office where required.
Experience in connector design, preferably industrial connectors, together with a sound foundation in mechanical design and drafting.
Proficiency in 3D CAD; experience with PTC Creo is preferred. Familiarity with legacy 2D AutoCAD drawings is advantageous.
Knowledge of high-speed transmission and connector evaluation and testing. Experience with simulation tools is preferred.
Knowledge of finite element analysis tools; ANSYS experience is preferred, although equivalent tools are acceptable.
Ability to read and prepare technical documentation in both Japanese and English.
Conversational English suitable for technical discussions, including communication by email and chat.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, including Excel sorting and pivot tables. VBA or macro experience is preferred.
Good manual dexterity for prototype fabrication and product evaluation; basic machining experience is advantageous.
Experience participating in technical and quality discussions with customers.
Basic understanding of REACH, RoHS and similar environmental regulations.
Strong analytical ability, adaptability, willingness to learn, teamwork and a hands-on, results-oriented approach.
