As a Software Engineer on the runtime team, you will build the on-robot software layer that turns trained models and robot subsystems into dependable real-world behavior. This includes developing ROS 2 nodes, task orchestration and state machines, safety and recovery behaviors, and the runtime services that keep robots operating in the field.
You will also serve learned policies on-robot and at the edge, integrate manipulation, navigation/SLAM, and voice interaction systems, and own deployment and operations tooling such as containerized builds, systemd services, OTA updates, and remote debugging. A major part of the role is building observability through structured logging, telemetry, and incident triage, while partnering closely with Field Development Engineers and the Data Platform team to translate field issues into runtime fixes and data capture improvements.
5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in production robotics or embedded/edge systems
Strong modern C++ (14/17) and Python
Production ROS / ROS 2 experience on Linux
Real-time systems mindset: latency, graceful degradation, watchdogs
Docker, Git, and CI/CD experience; comfortable debugging robots over SSH
Working English required; Japanese is a plus
