Forward Deployed Engineer / Implementation Engineer - Customer Dev
Canada (Remote) | Full-time | CAD $140,000 - $190,000
About Our Client
Our client is a leading provider of enterprise SaaS solutions for critical network infrastructure. For over 25 years, they've served the energy, utility, and telecom industries by combining geospatial data, business intelligence, and AI to deliver situational awareness and risk management for pipeline operators across North America.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to serve as the technical bridge between our client's asset integrity platform and the pipeline operators who depend on it. This is a domain-first role - deep oil & gas pipeline expertise is the primary qualification, not a traditional software engineering background.
You'll work directly with pipeline operators, integrity engineers, GIS specialists, and data teams to onboard them onto the platform - mapping data, configuring modules, validating integrity datasets, and delivering operational value from day one. This role requires occasional travel to customer sites across North America.
What You'll Do
- Lead discovery sessions with customer integrity teams, translating pipeline data and workflows into implementation plans
- Guide migration and mapping of ILI datasets, PODS/APDM/UPDM GIS models, corrosion & CP databases, and NDE records
- Validate and QA customer data loads (unit conversions, stationing alignment, anomaly classification)
- Write SQL scripts and ETL routines to load and reconcile pipeline integrity datasets
- Support integrations with Esri ArcGIS, PODS databases, SCADA feeds, and ILI vendor platforms
- Deliver training to integrity engineers, GIS analysts, and operations teams
- Build reusable implementation playbooks and configuration guides
What You Bring
- 5+ years in a technical pipeline role: integrity engineer, pipeline data analyst, GIS specialist, or integrity management consultant
- Hands-on experience with ILI data (ROSEN, Baker Hughes, Applus+, NDT Global) and MFL/UT/EMAT/IMU technologies
- Proficiency with PODS data models, Esri ArcGIS, APDM/UPDM, and linear referencing/stationing
- Working knowledge of cathodic protection data and ECDA/ICDA processes
- Understanding of 49 CFR Parts 192 & 195, ASME B31.8S, API 1160, and the PHMSA Mega Rule
- Strong SQL skills (SQL Server / Azure SQL preferred)
- Must be based in Canada with oil & gas pipeline industry experience
Nice to Have
- Direct operator or midstream experience
- Python, Databricks, or Azure Data Factory exposure
- Familiarity with AI/ML applications in pipeline integrity
