What the job entails

As an Innovation Strategist within the organisation’s strategy and transactions lab, you will help clients understand how advanced technologies are transforming industries, business models, operations and wider society. Working directly with clients, you will translate AI, data science and emerging technology concepts into practical strategies and commercially compelling business cases.

Your responsibilities will include assessing return on investment, conducting scenario analysis, identifying value-creation opportunities and converting innovative ideas into realistic implementation methods, roadmaps and project plans. You will work with business specialists, data consultants, scientists, architects and engineers, leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver outcomes.

You will also manage technical outsourcing activities, incorporate market trends and strategic objectives into client solutions, and lead the preparation of materials covering both the technical and commercial aspects of due diligence. The role is based in Tokyo within a hybrid working model, with Osaka considered by discussion.

Key requirements

• At least two years’ experience working for a consulting firm.
• Experience in strategy consulting, including developing and deploying innovation strategies.
• Native-level Japanese language proficiency.
• Strong experience identifying opportunities for value creation and turning ambitious ideas into deliverable initiatives.
• Ability to engage technology specialists and engineers proactively and manage outsourced technical work.
• Strong client orientation, with the ability to translate data-quality and business challenges into practical, action-focused measures.
• Knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, big data, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, cloud technology and data ethics.
• Ability to think boldly about radical innovation while maintaining a commercially realistic approach.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills, including the ability to explain complex data issues clearly and gain support from senior stakeholders.
• Strategic and analytical thinking, sound judgement, effective planning skills and an iterative, agile mindset.
• Collaborative, structured and cross-disciplinary approach to problem-solving.
• Proactive, self-motivated working style, with strong interpersonal skills.
• Fluent English and a genuine passion for creating client and business impact.
