What the job entails

As a Field Engineer, you will provide on-site technical support for semiconductor manufacturing equipment in Chitose, Hokkaido. You will be responsible for equipment installation, servicing, modification, repair, diagnostics and preventive maintenance, helping to minimise downtime and maintain high customer satisfaction.

Your work will include replacing parts, carrying out upgrades, responding to emergency service requirements and handling engineering change requests. You will maintain accurate service records and technical reports, follow established procedures, and provide operational and maintenance training to customer technicians.

Working closely with customers, supervisors and internal teams, you will investigate issues, communicate solutions clearly and remain calm under pressure. The role requires a strong commitment to cleanroom practices, workplace safety, confidentiality and professional conduct. Flexible shifts, overtime and weekend work may be required according to customer and operational needs.

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.
• Japanese language proficiency at N2 or N3 level and intermediate business English.
• Understanding of the semiconductor industry and its manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, mechanical diagrams and electrical schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment is advantageous.
• Knowledge of gas systems used in semiconductor processes is desirable.
• Cleanroom training and basic industry safety knowledge are beneficial.
• Ability to follow detailed technical instructions in English accurately and consistently.
• Strong customer-facing communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work on site, including overtime, flexible shifts and weekends when required.
