What the job entails

As Senior HR Manager, you will lead and develop the human resources agenda for the organisation’s Japanese operations. Working closely with local and international stakeholders, you will provide strategic and operational HR leadership across the employee lifecycle.

Your responsibilities will include advising managers on people-related matters, supporting organisational development, overseeing recruitment and onboarding, strengthening employee engagement, and ensuring effective performance and talent management. You will also help maintain robust HR policies and processes, support compliance with Japanese employment regulations, and contribute to wider global HR initiatives.

This permanent position, based in Tokyo, will suit an experienced HR professional who can operate confidently at both strategic and hands-on levels. You will play a key role in building an inclusive, high-performing workplace and ensuring that HR priorities are closely aligned with business objectives.

Key requirements

• Significant experience in a senior HR generalist or HR management role, ideally within an international or technology-led organisation.
• Strong knowledge of Japanese employment practices, HR policies and employee relations.
• Proven ability to partner with senior leaders and managers on organisational, performance and people matters.
• Experience across recruitment, onboarding, talent development, employee engagement and performance management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively across cultures and organisational levels.
• A pragmatic, discreet and solutions-focused approach to complex HR issues.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Business-level English and Japanese communication skills.
• A relevant degree or professional HR qualification.
