This is an opportunity to contribute to a growing business in Japan while working with colleagues across the region and global organization. In a close-knit local team, you can build strong working relationships and see how your financial insight supports business decisions. The environment offers scope to take ownership, improve ways of working, and make a practical impact across a multinational consumer business.
As Financial Controller, you will support business performance across Japan and Korea through accurate monthly closing, forecasting, management reporting, and finance business partnering. The role is currently weighted approximately 80% toward Japan and 20% toward Korea, with the Japan remit expected to increase. You will report to the North Asia Financial Director and work as a senior individual contributor with no direct reports.
Around half your time will focus on closing, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis. You will also help strengthen finance standards and processes, improving data quality, controls, and reporting efficiency. In partnership with Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, and other teams, you will turn financial information into clear insights that support decisions on profitability, pricing, investment, and costs. The position is based in Tokyo and follows a hybrid model: regular office attendance is encouraged during onboarding, with a typical schedule of three days in the office and two days working remotely after the first month.
At least five years of experience in controlling, FP&A, accounting, financial reporting, or finance business partnering.
Strong knowledge of financial statements, monthly close, budgeting, and forecasting.
Experience partnering with non-finance stakeholders and communicating financial insights to support business decisions.
A track record of improving finance processes, reporting standards, or controls.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP or reporting tools; SAP experience is preferred, with BW or BPC also beneficial.
Native-level Japanese proficiency, or JLPT N1 for non-native speakers, with the ability to communicate and prepare business documents independently.
English proficiency sufficient to read and write emails and reports; business-level conversational English is preferred, along with a willingness to develop further.
Experience in a multinational commercial organization is preferred. Background in a product-based consumer business is especially relevant; consumer goods experience is an advantage.
A finance or accounting qualification is beneficial. French or Korean language skills are also welcome.
Able to work independently, manage priorities, and collaborate effectively across functions and cultures.
