About Our Client
Our client is a growing SaaS company that builds mission-critical software for managing and protecting critical infrastructure across energy, utilities, and telecom. Its products are used every day by utility and damage-prevention customers, and the company continues to grow through acquisitions.
About the Role
As a Cloud Engineer, you will help operate, secure, and continuously improve the Azure and AWS hosting environments that all of the company's products run on. This is a hands-on, mid-level role across cloud infrastructure, security, automation, and reliability, within a team that owns its systems end to end. The role is fully remote for candidates anywhere in the United States or Canada; hybrid is optional for candidates local to central Ohio.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and improve production infrastructure across Azure and AWS, including compute, networking, databases, load balancing, and identity services.
- Evaluate and implement improvements to cloud architecture, availability, security, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Support the integration of infrastructure from acquired companies into the company's cloud environments, processes, and security standards.
- Implement and maintain cloud security controls, including IAM/RBAC, network segmentation, WAF rules, TLS, and secrets management.
- Manage vulnerability remediation, patching, and findings from security scans and penetration tests.
- Support SOC 2 Type II compliance by maintaining operational controls, collecting audit evidence, and documenting processes.
- Monitor production systems and maintain effective alerting.
- Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and the on-call rotation.
- Maintain runbooks, architecture diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Automate operational tasks with PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar tools.
- Build and maintain infrastructure as code with Terraform, Bicep, or equivalent technologies.
- Support and improve CI/CD pipelines.
- Monitor cloud usage and spending, and help improve cost efficiency.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in cloud engineering, SRE, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering, supporting production workloads.
- Hands-on production experience with both Microsoft Azure and AWS.
- Infrastructure as code with Terraform or Bicep (experience with one is enough).
- Scripting experience in PowerShell, Bash, Python, or a similar language.
- Cloud security fundamentals: IAM/RBAC, network segmentation, WAF, TLS, secrets management, and vulnerability remediation.
- Experience with production monitoring, alerting, incident response, and troubleshooting.
- Strong written communication and good judgment when assessing operational risk and escalating issues.
Nice to Have
- Experience in environments subject to SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 audits, supporting evidence collection.
- Background in highly regulated industries, such as critical infrastructure, energy, utilities, or healthcare.
- CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions or similar platforms.
- Exposure to Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft 365 administration.
- Familiarity with tools such as Wiz, PRTG, Vanta, or SentinelOne.
- Relevant Azure or AWS certifications.
- Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or infrastructure integrations.
- Experience with Windows Server, IIS, SQL Server, or Azure SQL Managed Instance.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- 401(k) plan with company match.
- Flexible PTO policy plus company-paid holidays.
- Life insurance, pet insurance, and employee discounts and perks.
- One-time work-from-home stipend to set up your home workspace.
- Company events, including monthly team lunches, volunteer outings, and quarterly gatherings.
